MikroTik Training by Ron Touw

I have been a MikroTik Certified Consultant since 2008 and became the UK’s first Certified Trainer in 2009. I hold all 10 MikroTik training certifications namely, the MTCNA, MTCRE, MTCINE, MTCTCE, MTCUME, MTCIPV6E, MTCWE, MTCSWE, MTCSE and I created a new MikroTik CAPsMAN training course in 2019 which was formally ratified and adopted by MikroTik as the new MTCEWE training course in 2020. We are a MikroTik Certified Training Center.

I have frequently delivered all the above training courses at LinITX‘s training center in Suffolk, at MikroTik User Meetings all over Europe and have frequently trained MikroTik Engineers at their own in-house RouterOS Training Centre in Rīga, Latvia as part of the MikroTik Riga BootCamp. I have also delivered many of the above training courses on customer’s own premises all over the world. My student scores regularly average between 80-90% in their exams.

Training in Rīga, Latvia

The home of MikroTik is Rīga in Latvia and it is where they built their internal staff training centre. Up to twice a year we hold multiple training courses running in parallel using the best trainers from around the world. It is here that we have the honour of training MikroTik’s internal engineering staff as well as students from all over the world. For example In November 2022 we trained 15 MikroTik engineering and support staff alongside students from the USA, Canada, Africa, Asia, the MIddle East and Europe. We even had MikroTik’s film crew visit us and they made a short film about what we do there. For more information about our MikroTik BootCamps, click here.

On Site Training

If you have a suitable room to host your staff for training on your own premises, it can save a significant cost, no need to expense multiple students travelling long distances, staying at hotels. Instead your staff can attend your own office and still be available for any unplanned emergencies. Your staff will also be happier being able to commute home each evening. All that is required is for each student to have their own laptop, a few mains sockets, a decent internet connection, a meeting or conference room type table for everyone attending and either a projector and screen or a large TV. See below for some examples of costs of a typical three day training course. Any necessary flights or ferry crossings would be extra. We are happy if you wish to open any extra seats to third parties or related colleagues, simply contact us for more information as this can make the training even more affordable. Contact us if you’re intersted in having any of the 11 standard MikroTik training courses or wish to have something bespoke delivered.

    Previous student feedback comments:

    “Great course”

“I thought Ron was an excellent teacher. I have attended a number of courses where I’ve known more than the teacher, who had probably attended the training course the week before. This is pretty common these days. Not with Ron – he is an expert and that was very evident. He is an expert in a very nice way and was not arrogant or dismissive of those learning. I would recommend your courses and will return in the future for the Mikrotik routing course.”

“I was so pleased with the teaching that I’ve turned down work to attend the other course in a month. I’ll see you then. Thanks!”

    “Good course.”

“Ron’s depth of knowledge a real asset that no other provider appears to offer.”

    Remote / Online training

We do not offer any remote online training. We did experiment with the idea during the COVID pandemic but we had major problems. Firstly with the practical lab work. The training courses contain a lot of interconnections between multiple student routers and the trainer’s router. Often using wireless. This became very difficult to simulate. Also the students gave feedback that it becomes much more difficult to interact between themselves to discuss the practical labs and to work collaboratively. Finally the exams have never been permitted to be taken remotely by MikroTik. They supported our view that the only effective way to teach RouterOS and MikroTik routers was by having all the students in one room with the trainer. Students can easily discuss issues they have with any of the topics being taught with the trainer with a near instant response. Attempting the same online does not work anywhere near as effectively. We therefore do not produce online videos or tutorials for the same reason. Each student learns at their own pace and doing this in class with the trainer directly there allows for students to lean much more effectively.
